When IAS officer Chanchal Chahuah (Bhumi Pednakar) is brought to a haunted haveli for questioning, the disabled chowkidar provides the first sense of shock. His demeanor and body language suggest that something is amiss. His loud and fiery proclamation, as he gets down on his knees to apologize to \u201cma\u201d, warning all that \u201cno one will survive\u201d and \u201ceveryone will die\u201d sets up the movie for a spooky ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. The Durgamati Avatar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until this moment in the film, IAS officer Chanchal Chahuah (Bhumi Pednakar) is an upright public servant. When she is kept in a haunted haveli for interrogation, we see flashes of her being possessed; there are injury marks on her body and a subtle change in her voice. However, the highpoint of the film comes after she is completely possessed and shows up in the Durgamati avatar in all her glory and splendour. The passionate monologue she delivers with rage will stay with the audience long after the film is over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Don\u2019t Mess With Durgamati<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ACP Abhay Singh (Jisshu Sengupta) enters the haveli looking to take out Chanchal in an encounter. However, he comes across a possessed Durgamati, who is having none of that. There\u2019s no trace of the old Chanchal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scene where Pednekar is constantly pounding at her hand with a hammer even after it\u2019s bleeding like a river is one of the most powerful moments in the film. A possessed Durgamati with a picturesque painting on her back, a massive fire raging in front of her, and a helpless Abhay Singh watching the action unfold as he lays on the ground injured throws light on the power dynamic between the characters. Durgamati\u2019s time had arrived, and how!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Death and Despair<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right at the beginning of the film, we find out that Chanchal shot ACP Abhay Singh\u2019s brother Shakti and is behind bars for the crime. However, there was more to the story than meets the eye, which we find out through a flashback sequence towards the end of the film. It is an emotionally powerful moment in the movie, and exposes the cruel nature of politics and public life. A scene bound to tear you up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Is She? Is She Not?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a large part of the movie, everyone is led to believe that Chanchal was possessed by the spirit of Durgamati. However, there are a series of stunning plot twists towards the end that\u2019ll leave everyone scratching their heads. You think you\u2019ve figured the whole thing out and the situation completely turns on its head in the next two minutes. And that keeps happening right till the end, as the credits roll. One might as well pluck a flower and do the classic \u201cIs she Durgamati? Is she not?\u201d The ending is definitely one to watch out for!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
