But there is one shiny bright spot we\u2019ve had to look forward to: the kickoff of awards season with the ever-entertaining <\/span>Golden Globes<\/span><\/a>! Louder, boozier, and more relaxed than most ceremonies, the Globes has gained new credibility thanks to a slew of TV shows that are even more acclaimed than their cinematic counterparts \u2014 at least, if <\/span>Martin Scorsese<\/span><\/a>\u2019s impassioned critique of the MCU is anything to go by. No longer can filmstars afford to side-eye the small-screen dregs of their profession from across the room, not when the TV nominees include <\/span>Meryl Streep<\/span><\/a>, Helena Bonham Carter, and Michael Douglas.\n\nAnd with big-name celebrities, naturally, comes fashion. Forget saving their best outfits for the Oscars, the Golden Globes red carpet saw stars pulling out all the stops. One of the best dressed was Jodie Comer, nominated for her role as the charming assassin Villanelle from <\/span>Killing Eve<\/span><\/i><\/a>. Villanelle\u2019s outrageous and often deadly wardrobe choices have helped make her the killer we (and Eve) hate to love. In a stroke of genius, Comer\u2019s poofy, playful princess gown and severe slicked-back hair is a throwback to her character that has us salivating for Season 3.\n\n\"Pheobe\"\n

After her famous <\/span>Fleabag<\/span><\/i><\/a> jumpsuit went viral, Waller-Bridge once again broke the internet with a picture of her lounging back after the Emmys, wearing a fairytale gown, surrounded by awards. This time winning Best Actress \u2014 Musical or Comedy, Waller-Bridge wisely decided to go for a chic suit that will be auctioned off for the Australia wildfire efforts.\n\nOf course, no fashion event is complete without Billy Porter, nominated for <\/span>Pose<\/span><\/i>, a series centred around New York\u2019s trans and drag community in the \u201980s. While I haven\u2019t actually watched the acclaimed show, or anything featuring Porter, I\u2019m ready to binge the whole thing in hopes that he never stops gracing red carpets at awards shows. In a world with too much snooze-worthy men\u2019s fashion, Porter is as godsent as his white feathers suggest.\n\n

JLo\u2019s attempt with a gift wrap-inspired gown was the fashion equivalent of keeping your Christmas lights up in January. <\/p><\/blockquote> \n\nIf only other actors, like Best Actor \u2014 Drama, <\/span>Joaquin Phoenix<\/span><\/a>, were half as adventurous as Porter. Kicking off our worst-dressed nominees is Joker Uncle, who downgraded from the fabulous red suit and mustard vest to a boring black tuxedo. On one hand, the wild-eyed Phoenix is so interesting his outfits don\u2019t have to be, and his impassioned trainwreck of a speech was a highlight of the evening. Still, can\u2019t we expect a bit of pizzazz from one of the most riveting and off-the-wall performers of the last decade?\n\nBut then, other stars showed us why it\u2019s a bad idea to cling to the dead past. Jennifer Lopez\u2019s daring red carpet choices have so often given us an eyeful, as well as exciting conversation to brighten up our drab lives. Twenty years ago, her unforgettable Versace dress made the kind of sensation that fashionistas try in vain to recreate. At the Globes, however, JLo\u2019s attempt with a gift wrap-inspired gown was the fashion equivalent of keeping your Christmas lights up in January.\n\n\"JLo\"\n

So focused is this dress on her superhuman abs that it has clearly been written off as a marketing expense for Goop, Paltrow\u2019s notoriously dippy health and wellness brand. Disclaimer: Going for one of Goop\u2019s touted vaginal steams will probably not give you a core of steel, but at least you\u2019ll feel warm and expensive on the inside.\n\nBetter power couples than Gwyneth and Goop, or steam and tender tissues, include <\/span>Game of Thrones<\/span><\/i>\u2019 Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie, whose on-screen romance translated to real life. Now, the <\/span>Jon Snow<\/span><\/a> and Ygritte magic has gone with Kit Harrington’s luscious locks. Director-darling couple Greta Gerwig (whom the Golden Globes failed to nominate for <\/span>Little Women<\/span><\/i>) and Noah Baumbach looked less like celebrated filmmakers and more like they just watched <\/span>Marriage Story<\/span><\/i><\/a>.
