T<\/span>he events of the last few days have demonstrated, to use an\u00a0overused\u00a0but applicable phrase, is\u00a0that we\u2019re living George Orwell\u2019s <\/p>1984<\/em> dream. A relentlessly curated pop-cultural landscape, where everything is under scrutiny,\u00a0including\u00a0jokes about GST<\/a> in a film\u00a0and the likes on your Facebook post \u2013 where everyone has a shtick to sell. In this carefully manicured version of our realities,\u00a0Bigg\u00a0Boss\u00a0<\/em>is\u00a0shocking, bare-assed, and confusing. All of it usually before the first commercial break.\n\nBigg\u00a0Boss<\/em>\u00a0is the culmination of our \u201cOh no they didn\u2019t!\u201d fantasy, and\u00a0for the viewer IV\u2019d to the show, it is simultaneously perverse and cathartic.\n\nWe don\u2019t like to admit it but when the cameras are off and there is no 3G signal, we\u2019ve all been there. In the same places that these hapless people \u2013 out-of-work stars and those hoping to be in their place one day \u2013 who come on our screens, year after year, only to be slagged off by the media.\n\nWe\u2019ve all tried to verbally pants a dude who is trying for the same girl we like, but Raja Chaudhary did it to Rahul Mahajan. We\u2019ve all had to take shit from fake-tanned and gymmed-up jocks of the Kushal Tandon variety, so we cheered deliriously when VJ Andy got him\u00a0evicted<\/a>\u00a0to complete his side\u2019s revenge of the nerds. We\u2019ve all struggled through relationships, so we\u2019ve pinned our hopes on Rochelle and Keith to see if they can make it in this twisted house of cards. We\u2019ve probably never felt how it would be to try to woo your ex-wife on national TV \u2013 while trying to\u00a0hit on<\/a>\u00a0a girl 15 years younger than her \u2013 like Rajeev Paul, but it\u2019s nice to have that experience for reference.\n

Bigg\u00a0Boss\u00a0brings together the two biggest drivers of human drama in history, romance and conflict, and distils the spectacle to its raw authentic core.<\/blockquote>\nThis season\u00a0has seen Shahid Afridi\u2019s ex-girlfriend Arshi Khan wear night dresses throughout the day and hit on Kyunki Saas Bhi Bahu Thi<\/em> fame (It\u2019s been 20 years bro!) and very married Hiten Tejwani\u00a0who has sort of been okay with her overtures. Housemates hate Arshi because she gets the attention, India loves her because #ArshiDGAF, and Hiten\u2019s wife hates everyone, including her husband. It is high drama, all the time, every time.\n\nEven Dhinchak Pooja<\/a> has entered the house now, and is vacillating between her selfie-loving viral self and an actual human with feelings and shit, which is evident in every exchange she has on the show.\u00a0She is\u00a0struggling\u00a0to stay \u201con brand\u201d\u00a0while simultaneously tying to show personal growth, which\u00a0is a struggle\u00a0for everyone with an online presence these days.\u00a0Bigg\u00a0Boss<\/em>\u00a0allows us to live out the fantasy of deciding to go \u201coff brand\u201d.\u00a0Maybe, just maybe, Pooja might have something other than \u201cDhinchakness\u201d up her sleeve, and that prospect is thrilling to the viewer.\n\n\"Bigg\n

When small-time model Niketan Madhok stood up to big-time stylist Imam Siddique after months of abuse, we cheered because that was us right there, vulnerable and real.\n\nBut what if we all started getting real? What if I told this arsehole that thanking his mother on her \u201cvery happy birthday\u201d on Facebook is a pathetic plea for attention? I won\u2019t\u00a0actually\u00a0tell that dude to go fuck himself, but someone\u00a0tonight\u00a0in the\u00a0Bigg\u00a0Boss<\/em>\u00a0House will probably say that to another human. It\u2019s voyeuristic, pleasurable, and emblematic of our acutely cultivated projections. It is the #ContemporarySocialExperience.\n\nThe most fulfilling moments on the show\u00a0then,\u00a0occur at the climactic engagement of pent-up angst with a \u201cfuck this shit\u201d realisation.\u00a0Sometimes the climax is extremely literal, like\u00a0Priyanka Jagga\u2019s bladder last year<\/a>.\u00a0There\u2019s an unadulterated cathartic kick when the veneer of our carefully crafted world is lifted even a tiny bit.\n\nThis is\u00a0all\u00a0Bigg\u00a0Boss<\/em>\u2019s\u00a0world.
