“L<\/span>ike father unlike son.\u201d\n\n<\/p>\u201cAnytime you\u2019re sad, just remember that @juniorbachchan still lives with his parents.\u201d <\/span>\n\n\u201c<\/span>Abhishek Bachchan<\/span><\/a> simply can\u2019t act.\u201d <\/span>\n\nAB Jr might not enjoy the fan following that most members of the Bachchan clan do, but he sure is a favourite on Twitter \u2013 of trolls of course, who dedicatedly take time out of their daily routine to take potshots at the actor. \u00a0<\/span>\n\nIt is easier to find a Rakhi Sawant fan today than a genuine defender of Abhishek Bachchan. His \u201cfault\u201d, most from the anti-Abhishek club believe, is that he is not a great performer. However, he mostly gets all the hate only because of being born to his <\/span>parents<\/span><\/a> \u2013 Amitabh and Jaya \u2013 both GOAT in their own right. It doesn\u2019t help that he is married to former Miss World and global celeb Aishwarya Rai. But does he really deserve all the trolling? <\/span>\n\nI recently had the opportunity to <\/span>interact with Abhishek Bachchan<\/span><\/a> during the promotions of <\/span>Manmarziyan<\/span><\/i><\/a> and I was most excited ahead of the meeting. When I was growing up in the mid noughties, AB Jr was considered the overall cool guy. In fact, our trademark step in Class 8 was <\/span>Dus Bahane Kar Ke\u2026 <\/span><\/i>I had this larger-than-life image of Abhishek Bachchan and when I met him, I wasn\u2019t disappointed. <\/span>\n\n\"manmarziyaan_abhishek_backchan\"\n\nColour Yellow Productions\n\nIt\u2019s hard to pinpoint what it is (perhaps it\u2019s the genes), but when AB Jr walked into a room, everyone took notice. We had limited time with the actors, but Bachchan took charge and there was no stopping once he sat in front of camera and yelled, \u201cAlright! Let\u2019s roll this.\u201d His trademark dialogue delivery and his effortless <\/span>charm<\/span><\/a> reminded me once again why he was such a rage back in the day. <\/span>\n\nDhoom, Bunty aur Babli, and Bluffmaster<\/span><\/i> are pure entertainment movies; in <\/span>Guru,<\/span><\/i> we see a passionate actor rise to the challenge like never before. But more than his acting, it is Abhishek\u2019s quick wit and self-aware <\/span>sense of humour<\/span><\/a> that made him likeable. He seemed like an actor with his head on his shoulders, who took success and failure in his stride. Everything looked peachy until Bachchan found himself in a string of bad movies at the turn of the decade \u2013 <\/span>Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Players<\/span><\/i>, and <\/span>Raavan<\/span><\/i>. This was the age of superstars \u2013 there was the Khan trio, <\/span>Akshay Kumar<\/span><\/a>, and Hrithik Roshan \u2013 and Abhishek Bachchan simply could not keep up. So despite all that Bachchan clout, he got offered fewer roles and took up more \u201ccomfortable supporting roles\u201d in big budget films \u2013 <\/span>Happy New Year<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>Paa<\/span><\/i>. But playing second fiddle wasn\u2019t that easy, as he recently admitted on <\/span>Koffee with Karan<\/span><\/i><\/a> \u2013 how being the guy behind the main lead was something that broke his heart enough to want to take a sabbatical. <\/span>\n

Jr Bachchan kept failing and he kept getting second chances.<\/blockquote>\nAnd that\u2019s where you can\u2019t help but notice the entitlement of being a star son. Abhishek Bachchan still believes he deserves a comeback. <\/span>\n\nAfter making his Bollywood debut in 2000, along with Hrithik Roshan, the two were automatically billed as the next big things. <\/span>But as anyone who has seen <\/span>Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon<\/span><\/i> will attest, Junior Bachchan would not be the one to achieve super-star status.<\/span> While Hrithik was knocking it out of the park with <\/span>Kaho Naa Pyar Hai<\/span><\/i><\/a> and <\/span>Lakshya<\/span><\/i>, junior AB was starring in duds like <\/span>Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Om Jai Jagdish<\/span><\/i>. Despite being the son of the biggest <\/span>superstar<\/span><\/a> in this country and the industry\u2019s over-reliance on nepotism, Abhishek\u2019s moviestar prospects were looking grim. <\/span>\n\nOr were they?<\/span>\n\n\"raavan_abhishek_bachchan\"\n\nMadras Talkies\n\nDuring the 2000s, it was clear that Abhishek Bachchan would not become a megastar like his father. He was not expected to shoulder a film like <\/span>Lagaan<\/span><\/i> or <\/span>Swades<\/span><\/i><\/a> all by himself. In fact, his success rate was identical to that of his peers \u2013 Priyanshu Chatterjee, Chandrachur Singh, and Rahul Bose. And if Bollywood were a playground for equals, he too would have been branded a has-been like them. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\n\nBut when <\/span>Yuva<\/span><\/i> made the critics sit up and take note of Abhishek Bachchan, \u201cthe actor\u201d, it was looked at as his inevitable breakthrough; Abhishek Bachchan, \u201cthe talent\u201d was applauded. <\/span>Yuva <\/span><\/i>was pegged as his breakout moment, when all it actually was his ninth film, in which he\u2019d simply not screwed up. <\/span>The movie remains an exception in Abhishek Bachchan\u2019s 20-year career graph. <\/span>\n\nJr Bachchan kept failing and he kept getting second chances. And no matter how<\/span> many flops he belted out, he would end the year unperturbed, sitting comfortably on the <\/span>Koffee with Karan<\/span><\/i> couch, hamper in tow. <\/span>\n\nHe was on the Koffee couch once again this year, after yet another \u201ccomeback film\u201d \u2013 <\/span>Manmarziyan.<\/span><\/i> And again, he was strictly average. <\/span>Anurag Kashyap<\/span><\/a>\u2019s love triangle, was exhausting and seemed like an update of <\/span>Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. <\/span><\/i>And in what seems like routine now, Abhishek was trolled for it. Some fine gentleman on Twitter decided to blame Bachchan and Bachchan alone for the <\/span>film flopping<\/span><\/a> at the box office. And that was a bit unfair. <\/span>\n\nAbhishek Bachchan does not deserve the hate he gets, but he also does not deserve the laurels bestowed upon him. He has been given enough chances to prove his mettle \u2013 probably more than any <\/span>star kid<\/span><\/a> in the industry. And it\u2019s time Bollywood stops celebrating his many comebacks. <\/span>\n\nWhen I met Abhishek Bachchan, I realised, he is indeed the cool, <\/span>suave dude<\/span><\/a> we saw in<\/span> Bluffmaster<\/span><\/i>.
