{"id":1768,"date":"2016-05-19T02:52:32","date_gmt":"2016-05-18T21:22:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/13.201.39.237\/?p=1768"},"modified":"2026-07-17T19:46:22","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T14:16:22","slug":"poo-kareena-kapoor-kabhi-khushi-kabhi-gham-k3g-karan-johar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/13.207.105.184\/?p=1768","title":{"rendered":"Is Poo Kareena Kapoor\u2019s Most Overrated Character?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span class=\"dropcap\">I<\/span>n the last sixteen years, like any self-respecting millennial, I\u2019ve rewatched <\/p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham&#8230; <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">aka <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arre.co.in\/humour\/sairat-remake-karan-johar-jhanvi-kapoor-ishan-khattar-bollywood\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karan Johar\u2019s<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> designer family <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arre.co.in\/people\/porn-theatre-usher-mumbai-imperial-cinema\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">porn<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at least twice a month. I know exactly how high Nandini Raichand\u2019s eyebrows furrow when she magically and accurately predicts the exact moment her elder son <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arre.co.in\/gender\/shah-rukh-khan-womens-rights-harassment-mannat\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rahul Raichand<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> enters their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arre.co.in\/pop-culture\/harry-potter-rowling-homophobia-lgbtq-fanfiction-drarry\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hogwarts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-style mansion and how many gamlas Anjali breaks on her first visit there. My eyes dutifully well up when Krish sings \u201cJana Gana Mana\u201d instead of \u201cDo Re Mi\u201d. I also have Poo\u2019s morning routine down pat (face mask, hair, mascara, lipstick with some twerking in between).<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the years, my utter investment in the Raichand family universe has guaranteed that I defend <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">K3G<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s blatant emotional manipulativeness to everyone. I find hidden meaning between its frames: The movie\u2019s real message is actually \u201cIt\u2019s all about loving your weight loss\u201d and don\u2019t you let anyone tell you otherwise. And like a true bhakt, I defend the indefensible, including Hrithik Roshan\u2019s total of five expressions throughout the film\u2019s three-hour runtime. <\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But it is time that I acknowledged that all of the Raichand family\u2019s feelz and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">K3G\u2019s <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">manufactured patriotism can\u2019t make me ignore what an absolute disappointment Poo, aka Indian Regina George actually is. <\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a long long time, I had nothing but respect for my president Poo, worshipping at the altar of Poo-ism day in and out. I was joined by my comrades on the Indian internet, who were converted into devout followers following the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/niralishah\/queen-poo?utm_term=.jbvlwbPxk#.mdbWjZ19l\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Buzzfeedication<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of Poo as the feminist kween who would save us all.<\/span>\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-28828\" src=\"http:\/\/13.201.39.237\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1513241186.jpg\" alt=\"Poo\" width=\"647\" height=\"404\" \/>\n<figcaption>\n<p>I have watched <em>K3G<\/em> so many times that I have Poo\u2019s morning routine down pat (face mask, hair, mascara, lipstick with some twerking in between).<\/p>\n<p>Dharma Productions<\/p>\n<\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And then, I grew up. Poo, who I thought was the most interesting character in the film, was, in fact, really no different from the other Raichands. This is the story of how I lost my religion.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We met her briefly when she was the chief bully of Chandni Chowk, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arre.co.in\/humour\/aahana-kumra-instagram-fitness-body-shaming\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fat-shaming<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> kids whose only fault was that they resembled a literal laddoo. Besides challenging this Laddoo to repeat \u201cChandu ke chacha\u201d and gathering an under-16 army to bully him, Pooja also landed up at his school with her sidekicks with the intention of beating him up. Another thing that distinguished kid Pooja from normal kids was her propensity to show no remorse. If that\u2019s not a sociopath, I don\u2019t know what is. <\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then, after the film takes a 10-year-leap, we find out that the Pooja Sharma we knew, now responds to calls of Poo. She lives in a London mansion; her room alone could house at least 15 strugglers trying to making it in Bollywood. And she suffers from the deadly LeBron James Complex, referring to herself in the third person, as if she were Patrick Bateman from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Psycho.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Turns out, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arre.co.in\/humour\/happy-birthday-aishwarya-rai-bachchan-abhishek-bachhan-amitabh-bachchan-sunheri-dhoom-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sunehri<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> isn\u2019t the only one we can judge. Her egregious fashion sense apart, Poo roams the streets with two identical devotees and the catchphrase \u201cHallelujah\u201d, a hack she likely picked up from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mean Girls<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. She displays peak \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arre.co.in\/people\/bengalis-nyaka-west-bengal-nyakami-moon-moon-sen-kolkata\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nyaka<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d behaviour, hungry for compliments, while putting down her friends, and picking on others\u2019 appearance. (\u201cParso ke din bhi yehi pehna tha na?\u201d)<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How did we lap it all up? How did we overlook her awful personality, and only cherry-picked what we liked? Instead of questioning her ridonk behaviour, she was our homegirl. How did she come to be the icon of a generation?<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course there were a few admirable things about Poo. We loved that she didn\u2019t let trashy boys boss her around, believed in self-care before most woke <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arre.co.in\/love-and-sex\/newness-nicholas-hoult-laia-costa-drake-doremous-dating-apps-relationships\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">millennials<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> did, and shut down Rahul if he tried to judge her clothes. In fact, my favourite bit is when she reprimands Anjali for nitpicking over temple-appropriate clothes with a classic Poo line: \u201cAgar bhagwan ko dekhne ke wajah sab mujhe ghoor ke dekh rahe thhe, toh it\u2019s not my problem.\u201d <\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This unabashed, unapologetic personality and her complete ownership of her individuality taught this generation a few things. She taught us that we are beautiful just the way we are, years before Bruno Mars could even think of it, and made us vow that we wouldn\u2019t change for anyone.<\/span>\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-28827\" src=\"http:\/\/13.201.39.237\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/1513241203.jpg\" alt=\"Poo\" width=\"960\" height=\"407\" \/>\n<figcaption>\n<p>For a long long time, I had nothing but respect for my president Poo, worshipping at the altar of Poo-ism day in and out.<\/p>\n<p>Dharma Productions<\/p>\n<\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Except, she breaks that vow herself. Poo abandons every iota of her personality for Rohan, growing so obsessed with him that she goes about stalking and serenading him on campus. As is the trajectory of many KJo<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">heroines, the backless crop tops are replaced by salwar kameezes, transitioning into a Raichand-ready sati Savitri who takes to singing bhajans only to impress the boy whose hobby is negging the hell out of her. This, from the girl who wouldn\u2019t let slide an opportunity to demean Anjali for being so stuck up about Indian culture. Two hours into <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">K3G<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Poo is relegated to being Rohan\u2019s shoulder to cry on, whose only duty is to keep <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arre.co.in\/humour\/karva-chauth-channi-married-mard-fasting-marriage-indian-traditions\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karva Chauth<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> fasts for his ungrateful ass, completely forgetting her individuality and self-respect. Even a severe case of Alzheimer\u2019s couldn\u2019t explain this wretched transformation. <\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How did we disregard this? This and a hundred other giddy, petty tactics like getting close to Lokhandwala gymbro Robbie, and completely overturning her opinion of Rohan, seconds after announcing that she hates him. With her loud, attention-seeking, validation-craving personality, Poo embodies every single cliche that plagues women. <\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poo might have been the most honest and accurate portrayal of the world KJo envisions in his dreams, but she definitely isn\u2019t the role model millennials need. <\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poo deserved better. We deserved better.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So the next time, someone tells me how Poo is the most underrated character in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">K3G<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, instead of exclaiming \u201cI like it! I&#8230; like&#8230; it!\u201d I\u2019m just going to roll my eyes. My Poo rating stays at \u201cWhatever!
