I<\/span>n his latest surgical strike on Bollywood, <\/p>Karan Johar<\/span><\/a>, the eternal guardian angel of star kids and the backer of achingly abominable franchises, has officially announced <\/span>Student Of The Year 2<\/span><\/i>. A sequel to his 2012 directorial outing <\/span>Student Of The Year<\/span><\/i> that launched <\/span>Alia Bhatt,<\/span><\/a> Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra, <\/span>SOTY 2<\/span><\/i> is set to be directed by Punit Malhotra, and produced by Dharma Productions.<\/span>\n\nTiger Shroff, son of Bollywood\u2019s Bhidu Jackie Shroff, will star in the<\/span> sequel, reinforcing Johar\u2019s belief in the famous Dharma saying, \u201cSigning two star kids is better than one.\u201d This comes a few days after the director made headlines for championing the noble cause of <\/span>nepotism<\/span><\/a> (yet again) when he signed <\/span>Sridevi\u2019s<\/span><\/a> elder daughter <\/span>Janhvi Kapoor <\/span><\/a>and <\/span>Shahid Kapoor\u2019s <\/span><\/a>half-brother Ishaan Khattar for <\/span>Dhadak,<\/span><\/i> the Hindi remake of <\/span>Sairat<\/span><\/i><\/a>.<\/span><\/i>\n\nThere\u2019s more. Unlike the previous film that had two male leads and one female lead, <\/span>Student Of The Year 2<\/span><\/i> is instead going to feature two female leads alongside Tiger Shroff. Before you rack your brains contemplating on which struggling, talented newcomers could be cast in the film, let me have the honour of stopping you right there. Remember, when it comes to casting home productions, KJo is allergic to both \u201ctalent\u201d and \u201cstrugglers\u201d. Naturally, the names that are doing the rounds for the two female leads are Sara Ali Khan, daughter of Saif Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, daughter of Sridevi, Ananya Pandey, daughter of Chunkey Pandey, and Disha Patani aka token non-star kid.<\/span>\n

It\u2019s funny how KJo needed Student Of The Year<\/em> to launch star kids, pretending as if that\u2019s not the whole point of the existence of Dharma Productions anyway<\/blockquote>\nAs Janhvi and Sara both have their debut projects lined up, and are going to be busy shooting for <\/span>Dhadak<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>Kedarnath <\/span><\/i>respectively, <\/span>SOTY 2<\/span><\/i> may just end up being the debut vehicle for Ananya Pandey, and a film opportunity for Disha Patani, unless KJo manages to find another star kid in Bandra.<\/span>\n\nReleasing the first poster today, Karan Johar has guaranteed that <\/span>SOTY 2<\/span><\/i> effortlessly enters the hall of fame of \u201cfilms we neither deserve, nor want\u201d. Think about it, did any of us watch <\/span>Student of The Year<\/span><\/i> and think to ourselves\u2026 This film needs a sequel? The very film that mistook a five-star hotel as a college campus, comprised songs that are full of redundancies in two different languages (Remember <\/span>Ishq Wala Love<\/span><\/a>?), a wafer-thin plot that was a lesson in designer porn, and an insensitive gay portrayal (because <\/span>Dostana<\/span><\/i> wasn\u2019t enough). Literally, the biggest dilemma Alia Bhatt\u2019s Shanaya had in the film was having to buy a new salwar kameez because her wardrobe didn\u2019t have appropriate \u201chospital wear\u201d. That\u2019s right.<\/span>\n\nIn short, <\/span>Student Of The Year <\/span><\/i>could be basically summed up in one line: It\u2019s all about loving (and flaunting) your wealth and love triangles. It\u2019s funny how KJo needed a separate film to launch star kids, pretending as if that\u2019s not the whole point of the existence of Dharma Productions anyway.<\/span>\n\nThe only way <\/span>Student Of The Year <\/span><\/i>could be any more terrible is if Karan Johar decided to make its sequel. The sequel would naturally see a star kid with a reputation for box-office failures, and an ability to replicate a wooden statue (even better than <\/span>Arjun Rampal<\/span><\/a>). Its plot would revolve around dance competitions that can be won by a budget Hrithik Roshan. It\u2019d basically be <\/span>ABCD<\/span><\/i>, but with more tears, family, wealth, and of course love triangles. <\/span>\n\nOh wait, did I just describe <\/span>Student Of The Year 2<\/span><\/i>?<\/span>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
