\n\nW<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\ninter is coming. No, I don\u2019t mean that in context to Game of Thrones<\/a>, I mean it\u2019s December: The air is nippy, my beard<\/a> feels dry and scraggly, and yeah there\u2019s soup on the table every evening. My mother\u2019s precociousness dictates that soup is a necessity, the minute she feels even a slight dip in temperature or humidity. Even good old Mumbai, usually thriving in the \u201chot enough to make your balls sweat\u201d zone, is now having a handful of not-so-hot days, which mama gratefully accepts as winter. \n\nThe perfect soup for winter involves walking into a cheap Chinese restaurant<\/a>, with trashy d\u00e9cor, Shetty waiters and melamine plates, and ordering the customary sweet corn chicken soup which really pisses my grandmother off. Grandmothers are fairly arrogant custodians of traditional culinary knowledge, insisters of vegetable content, and do not take kindly to restaurant food. They also make that annoying mouth-clicking sound when they are pissed off. To avoid all this drama, just make the damn soup at home. \n\nHere\u2019s the recipe for my grandmom\u2019s Goan-style chicken and vegetable soup that for some reason involves alphabet pasta. \n\nHere’s What You Need<\/em>:<\/strong>\n\n\"\"\n \nA cup of diced potatoes\nA cup of diced carrots\nA cup of diced cauliflower\nOne finely chopped onion\nThree cloves of finely chopped garlic\nA cup of minced chicken\nOne Maggi chicken stock cube\t\nAlphabet pasta (or crushed Maggi noodles, if you can\u2019t find this pasta)\n\nWhat You Need to Do With It<\/em>:<\/strong>\n\n\"\"\n\nHeat some oil in a pan or pot. \nThrow in your onions and caramelise them over a medium flame. \nNow add your chicken and saut\u00e9 until the chicken goes from pink to white. \nThrow in some garlic, sweet corn, and vegetables, and give it a stir. \nAdd a litre of water to the pot and throw in the stock cube. Let the whole thing come to a boil. \nLastly, add the pasta or noodles and simmer until it\u2019s cooked. Transfer to serving bowls and hit each bowl with a knob of butter. Serve with kadak or brun pav for a full meal. \n\nAnd yeah, leave that jacket home. This soup\u2019ll keep you warm.\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
