Marvel\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Iron Man<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with its glib, imperfect hero Tony Stark, made us realise that saving the world could also be fun. That having superpowers wasn\u2019t merely a burden, but also, you know, cool.<\/span>\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arre.co.in\/humour\/christopher-nolan-commerce-student\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christopher Nolan\u2019s<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dark <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Batman<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> still did well, but for every other mortal filmmaker, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Iron Man <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">altered the foundation of the genre. Gone were the heavy-hitters, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Superman <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the \u201980s, which paved the way for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Captain America<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, followed by the bearable lightness of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avengers<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ant Man<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and eventually <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guardians of the Galaxy<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Marvel brought the superhero to the masses, wholesome entertainers, which didn\u2019t take themselves or the genre seriously. Those which did, like DC\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Man of Steel<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Batman vs Superman<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/shortcuts\/2016\/aug\/03\/from-suicide-squad-to-batman-v-superman-why-dc-films-so-bad-zack-snyder\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cast aside<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by audiences and critics alike. <\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avengers <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">circus, there was one character firmly out of place: Thor. In films featuring an ensemble of clowning, smart-talking asskickers, he remained too macho, too brutish, too <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">basic<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Director <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.co.in\/search?rlz=1C1GGRV_enIN748IN748&#038;q=Taika+Waititi&#038;stick=H4sIAAAAAAAAAOPgE-LWz9U3MDQySzIvNFDiAnGMzE0MKoy1xLKTrfTTMnNywYRVSmZRanJJfhEA3Q1HsjMAAAA&#038;sa=X&#038;ved=0ahUKEwjH5uT0yKLXAhWKvo8KHewkACQQmxMIhgIoATAj\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taika Waititi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the dude who acted in the shameful Ryan Reynolds <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green Lantern<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> back in 2011, changes all this with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thor: Ragnarok.<\/span><\/i>\n\n<blockquote class=\"quote--center\"><p>Films change, heroes change, but Hulk only smash<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ragnarok\u2019s <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">opening frame places Thor in the face of death in Surtur\u2019s cave. He\u2019s hanging from a rotating tightrope, and has to ask Surtur to frequently pause his tirade about ending the world and shit. It\u2019s silly slapstick, but it sets the ridiculousness early on. Even in its most serious moments, like one where Thor is near death and asks Odin for his hammer, Odin retorts, \u201cAre you the God of hammers!\u201d I sat back laughing, wondering why since the first film in 2011, we actually haven\u2019t seen the God of Thunder use a jolt of lightening to demolish enemies. <\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This new parodying, poor man\u2019s Tony Stark version of Thor takes time to adjust to. But then in one scene, Thor lectures Loki about personal growth, change, and the predictability of Loki\u2019s betrayals, which is commentary on Thor\u2019s growth, his change, and even the audiences who have grown to love these movies for their <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/screenprism.com\/insights\/article\/does-deadpool-signal-the-beginning-of-the-end-for-the-superhero-movie-genre\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">self-parody<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The only trace of unchanging order in the film is when Hulk picks up Thor and smashes him sideways. Films change, heroes change, but Hulk only <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=udKE1ksKWDE\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">smash<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span>\n\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thor Ragnarok<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a road trip loaded with more jokes than the Bill Burr stand-up, more emotion than the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/guardians-of-the-galaxy-vol-2-chris-pratts-lovable-gang-of-outcasts-are-still-the-mcus-best\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fakery<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the second <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guardians<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> movie, and perhaps the best CGI ever in a superhero film. The studio invented the light-hearted superhero flick in 2008, and nine years and 17 films later, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thor: Ragnarok<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight:
